I had a part-time job at a local supper club as a salad prep girl - really, that was my title. Despite horrible management, the crew was awesome. They were very welcoming and we had a great comraderie from the start. I did not know what was going on when I was about to be initiated....
One of the specialties of the restaurant were (and still are) their fabulous potato pancakes. ABSOLUTELY delish. I had known this as a patron long before my job there. The head cook says to me, in the midst of a fully staffed kitchen, "Oh my god, feel how hot this is," as he puts his hands above the large mixing bowl of batter. WHAT I was SUPPOSED to do was put my hands above the bowl so I could be 'dunked' in the batter.
Who knew?
I was a chem major in college. We chem majors walk to the beat of a different bongo drum. I felt the SIDES of the bowl, and then immediately caught on to what was going on.
Well, apparantly I am legendary there now. Which is most likely the only job that I have ever held where I am legendary for something POSITIVE. I only held the job for a summer, but some twenty years later I'm the only person who was indoctrinated that never got dunked.
