I work in a call center for a major retailer. Our corporate office happens to be located in Jackson, MS. I handle credit/customer services calls.
This particular customer was from California and the following conversation took place.
(Customer): Where are you from?
(Me): I am in the corporate office in Jackson, MS
(Customer): OH okay, is that a state?
(after a few seconds of silence-Me): Yesssss....
(Him): Oh, I didn't know...with the civil war and all.
I have no idea what they are teaching in schools in California, but for those who are not sure-Mississippi is still a state. The South lost the Civil War.

Don't take it personal ... Some in California think that New Mexico is a different country!

Bet he was trying to find out if he had reached an overseas call center and wanted to trip you up.
Some have to act superior condescending and obtuse. Just think of them as being in the same league as our half educated bosses.
The jerks never read another book after graduation and are proud of it.

That does it, I have met many people from Cal. that I thought were stupid. This just verifies what I already had determined from meeting people from California. They are mentally challenged. Just goes to show you that too much sunlight is not good for you and what good does being happy all the time do for you if you are too stupid to know better. I hope the big quake comes and takes out all of the stupid population of California, since they are the people who tend to be the breeders anyways!

"don't ask" is exactly right. They were trying to see where you were from and were trying to trip you up. To make sure you really were American.

HAND,
San Diego is an exception to the rule. Every person I have encountered from there was a decent well rounded person!

Oh, then I might be an exception to the exception. People think I'm crazy ^_^.
Everyone who knows me and knows my face tells me that all the time:
"Have A Damn, you're a freak!"
Hee hee hee hee ^_^
Life's too short!
However, I wanna know this: Have any of you EVER met anyone from WYOMING? I'm beginning to think it doesn't exist! I've never met anyone from there, and I never see anything on the news about anything happening there! ^_^
