The take-away benefit

I accepted a job offer last year with a very nice benefit included in the offer letter. I was given an extra week of vacation, above and beyond the standard 2 weeks. Well 3 weeks after starting, my boss quit and left for another company. A new boss was hired and started soon after. Apparently he had access to view my benefits and wanted to meet with me about my vacation. He didn't think it was fair that I had an extra week of vacation, and wanted to let me know that this was going to be the last year I had that benefit. Well as you can imagine I was livid. I went straight to human resources and complained. They said he did not have the right to take that away from me, and I got to keep my vacation.

Moral of the story, if you think you are being treated unjustly, don't just take it, talk to your human resources department about it.

This is pretty true. More often than not people lay down and die because they think their boss has the final say or they're afraid to make waves. This just lets power trippers have their way while you pay for their meal...
