I absolutely hate and despise my employer and want to find out if anyone here has or had the same feelings/ experiences. I actually though about different ways I can get rid of her and I’m a very nice person… I have never been that angry before in my life.
I have been working for this small business for about 3 years now and what supposed to be an administrative assistant position ended up being a hands-on business partnership without the pay increase. When I started the job ( I was 18) I was naïve and inexperienced in the corporate world (mentality) and when the time came for my 1st raise I got swindled into a salaried position without any medical benefits and one week of restricted ( I need to ask employers approval; God forbid that she would like to go to Jamaica for the 3rd time this year and my vacation will fall on those days) vacation time. I needed the money to support a family member and I did not argue much. Not only was I told (daily) how generous of an employer she is I also got a “benefit” of working my butt off overtime and anytime she felt like taking another week off and pilling all the responsibility on my shoulders. I also have been promised that one day I will be running this company – well, I already am, but I just do not get paid accordingly. I’m tired of listening to her stupidity and stubbornness… every time I give her an innovative idea on how to increase sales and make the bottom line seem more attractive she yells at me and tells me if I’m that smart that I should just buy her out… then she uses my ideas and takes all the credit.
Right before the busy season (4th quarter) she tries to be nice to me because she is probably scared that I will abandon her. This year she tried to offer me some medical benefits, well I was very happy to the offer but I knew that there was a catch. She told me that I would have $1500.00 deductible plus $30 co-payment… I barely kept from crying and laughing all at the same time and telling her to stick it up her a@@. Before I reacted I politely asked to review the medical insurance plan and she refused to give me the paperwork and event the website of the insurance company. She also added – “ If you do not accept this, I’m not sure what I can do for you”. The next morning she asked me to come to her office and tried to change her statement to “ I did not mean that you will not be getting a raise this year, it’s just I wanted to do something nice to you by providing medical benefits that’s all”. Of course, I did not buy into that. There has been a lot of tension in the office after this… I have not mentioned that she is also psychotic and a hypochondriac. The other day she had a mosquito in her office and she had a full-blown anxiety attach (potential West Nile virus infection). Oh, and what happens when she gets a paper cut?! She thinks that she will have some sort of a deadly blood infection, one can only hope. She is also constantly makes remarks on my height (she is much shorter than I am) and my “big boobs” ( she is flat as a board) along with how often she has sex with her boyfriend and how great her sex life is.
I despise her as a human being and as a business owner, but I love our clients and the line of work I’m in. I guess I can only feel pity for a middle aged woman that resembles Smigel from Lord of the Rings and has a physical and mental development of a teenage boy filled with anxiety and angst serving as a sugar mama to her boyfriend of 12 years. I’m now in search of a new job with much less drama and stress.

Unfortunately since it is her company it doesn't look like she will be leaving any time soon. I see this playing out in two possible scenarios. First, you find another job and leave. You may or may not be happy at another job, but at least you are away from the psycho. Second option, you find another job and she freaks out and offers you more money/benefits to stay. She could clean up her act from that point on... OR you stay and she could go back to being a psycho! But at least you have more money and benefits... In any case, scoping the job market is probably a good idea if you are that miserable. When you were 18, you needed the experience and probably didn't have a lot of options. Now that you have some experience under your belt, you might find more doors open than you think. Good luck and keep us posted!
