Over the weekend I decided to hit 2008 with vigor! I was thinking about some of my former calss-mates since I had graduated with my Masters degree. I have a LinkedIn account and thought I'd check it out some more.
To my suprise there are over 200 new (2006 - 2008) graduates from my school nation-wide that are listed in LinkedIn. That doesn't include any graduates prior to those years (over 2,000!!!).
So I spent some time to invite all the recient graduates. Thus far I have had 22+ accepted invites and only one reject. That is from two days ago! Out of all those I had one say "WOW" about my personal website and another offering to help in my employment search!
I would highly suggest that others do the same! What can it hurt?

I recently got active again on LinkedIn. It is a great way to keep in touch with folks you do business with. Never thought about using it to connect with old school friends... not a bad idea!

Many of these people I don't know but being an alumni there may be someone who would be willing to help a fellow alumni out! At least that is my thinking.
I am not sure what else to do right now as to changing jobs (and leaving my personal hell-hole of a job). Employment agencies say it is best to get an inside invite then being an outsider. Thus I figure that maybe advertising myself in this manner would be helpful! I have my web page, my education and my experience - why not an insider?
Am I thinking right on this??? I invited many people that I don't know in the hopes that somewhere it would end in a lead.
I intend to do the remainder of the alumni later after the holidays and see where that gets me. I figure that if they had graduated a while back that they may have (better) jobs where they may have openings. And what is better than having an inside track on a job before it is advertised?!?

Don't expect everything to happen just because you are an Alumni. Many people who suggest other's to their bosses have known the person for a long time. It seems to me that you are using this website just like a myspace.
