Headcase Extraordinaire

I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth, but have experienced success through hard work and determination.

After raising three children, running my own business, and actively supporting the ex's career aspirations, I found myself a without an income and without a degree.
Due to an "unplanned change in marital status" after twenty plus years, I was put into a situation where I needed to find a job/any job, quickly.
Due to a slow job market, I chose to take a job temporarily with a local cleaning service to put food on the table, while I took some courses to update my skills.
At first it seemed that it would be a great summer. I loved the physical activity, the beautiful homes, and the great gals that I worked with.
One problem: the boss lady, wow, head case extraordinaire!

She's owned the business for a number of years, and has several employees who've been with her company for some time, but mostly there's quite the turn over...for good reason!

I had her number from day one, just one of those people who you can read like an open book. Can we all say "manipulative?"
At first I just observed as she played one employee off another...thankful it wasn't me as this was a temporary gig, right? Uh, no, not so much.
I was continually amazed as she spent her days berating, harassing, and manipulating one after another of my co-workers.
It wasn’t long before her customers began complaining about various things such as; cleaning crews showing up at unscheduled times, both late and early, priority lists not being followed, charges in excess of quoted amounts…the list is endless! Some were long time customers, some new…it didn’t matter as she’d tell them one thing, tell us another then “throw us under the bus” each and every time.
First we’d have to listen to the customers complaints, then the boss lady’s…and she’s the one who created the problems in the first place, good grief!

It became evident that this woman actually enjoyed the head games she was playing. It was a sport to her, no kidding!

Check back for more on this one…

I am relating to you in a big way. You are obviously very intelligent, and insightful, and have not been given the opportunity to fully realize your potential. I encourage you to continue to update youir skills, and get a job worthy of your talents. Do not allow this manipulative idiot to impact you negatively. She is a bump in the road, and a learning experience, that is all.

Keep going, I salute you for your ability to remake yourself! Never give up! Just remind yourself that this is only temporary. I know you need a job to support yourself and achieve your education goals, but keep your eyes on the prize. A good way to deal with this bad situation is to fantasize about the day you quit! Come up with a very dramatic scene, one in which you tell this women off to her face. Then again manipulate the manipulator. This women sounds like she may be narcisistic, beware these are dangerous people. They are true sociopaths by definition. Good luck.

Some good comments already! I sympathize with you. I have worked for people like that, people who thrive on chaos. If it does not present itself, they create it. They like livng on the brink. Keep reminding yourself it is temporary. As long as you are making othe rmoves that benefit you, you will survive. Please keep in touch with us here.

This woman wouldn't be married to the moron in the ADD boss story, would she?

This is classic! And very similar to what I experience everyday... It took a nice, relaxing vacation to realize my boss is truly a head case... when I have more time, I'll elaborate! Keep going strong... don't lose sight!
