An employee had been closing the blinds by the window for years whenever she worked on the computer. She needed to block out the glare. The new boss told her she could not close the blinds unless she brought a doctor's excuse, which she did. However, he still refused to allow her to close the blinds. He had the window inspected by the "Safety engineer," who said that there was no glare. The "Safety engineer" brought in several other safety experts who brought meters to prove that there was no glare.
The union president advised her to close the blinds based on her doctor's excuse. The attorney examined the blinds and said that while the employee could not close the blinds completely, she could tip them up or down until they were almost closed. And that's what it takes to be allowed to close the blinds here: an eye doctor; a boss (and secretary); a safety engineer; three safety experts with meters; an attorney; and lots of paid time.

Every time I read something like this, I am not surprised when someone brings a rifle to work and goes hunting! Talk about control freaks! I am not supporting violence but talk about crazy monkeys!

Yup, the new boss is definitely a control freak/sadist to the nth degree.

The boss is a sociopath and dysfunctional boss who wants the employee out, or at the least wants to keep bullying to satisfy their inner feelings of rage and ineptitude. Also, a clear message has been sent to HER superiors-mess with me and this is just a sample of what I'll put you through.

Looks like our tax and insurance money in action -- again. Curiously enough when I worked in a place like it the branch head opened all curtains and blinds no matter how much glare bounced off the monitors and bothered us. One employee does have a degenerative eye problem. She opened the blinds in his work room to blinding sunlight as soon as she walked in.-- I got glare proof eyewear, disguised as glasses.

Sounds like the boss has a serious control issue. My regards to the employee for seeing it through and not giving up. sometimes Bosses will put you through hell just to try to get you to quit.

Hey, at least they HAVE light; I work in a windowless office, but hey, we have cubes with Plexi windows in them so we can stare at the light from the flourescent bulbs reflecting off my fellow cuber's bald spot!!
the cynic(07/14/2006)
That sucks. We had light issues here too, and it took 4 months to fix them. However, they still wont' turn down the heat or A/C though, and they've put our team by the window so that means wearing a jacket and socks in the summer (while your hands turn blue typing), and summer-weight clothes and sandals in the winter. And they complain about the energy bill...BAH!

I'm speechless. I cannot believe the company wasted so much money and resources on a window shade! Every office I've been in folks close the shades when it is sunny to help avoid the glare and light in their eyes while working. Talk about a boss with a chip on his/her shoulder.
