Well today I found out that my boss majorly lied on his resume and I'm not sure what to do about it. I have been here 6 years and used to work for somebody else so when my old manager left a year ago, I was asked to sit in on some of the interviews for my current boss. I had a copy of his resume and it listed that he graduated from UCLA. And we aso discussed this in the interview because I had a niece who was attending there at the time and it was good small talk.
Anyway today at lunch a group of us started taking about colleges and I mentioned that my nephew was going to be starting at U of M and we started talking about college days. One of my coworkers asked him where he went and between botes of his burger he says he did 2 years at the local community college and then topped it off with "but mostly I just took photography classes"!!!! I almost choked on my burger. He looked me and I thought maybe he realized what he just said, but I can't be sure.
So, what do you guys think? Do I report this? I do have a copy of his resume and I did double check when I got back to lunch. Sure enough - UCLA. I haven't mentioned it to anyone yet but I am dying to laugh about it with my coworkers. Thing is...my boss is clueless and a bit of a slacker, but he doesn't bother me too much and lets me take time off when I need to and all that. I'd kind of hate to see him go because god knows what could replace him. I just can't respect him anymore now that I know he committed such a blatant lie. Am I right to assume that I should just keep quiet and that eventually it'll come out under the right circumstances? I hate knowing this now because it pisses me off that he gets paid what he does all because he is a manager with phont credentials. He does have 2 kids so I'd hate to be the reason he lost his job.
I should mention that he also said he was very familiar with our sales computer system here. And it was evident that he did not have the years of experience that he said he had---but that's hard to prove.

Thanks for your comments. I decided to just sit on the information and see what happens. I think he'll probably slip up again about something---he doesn't seem to be a good "lie manager" so I 'm guessing it'll come out and then it wil be somebody else's problem to figure out what to do. ^_^ Like I say, he's been pretty good so far and I guess he's realized I know so we'll just wait and see. He's been out the last few days so I can't tell if he's being nicer yet!

just don't let it go to your head that you have "information". It doesn't give you any "power" over anybody.

Let it go...if he is treating you well, then that is all that really matters, as far as you are concerned. Leave anything else to Karma, things will catch up to him. If you use this against him, then you will have that hanging over your head. My previous manager was kind of a slacker, and one of my co-workers made it her business to call him out on it, even though he was always nice to her. We got the new Bimbo Manager, who is hell on wheels, the worst. And my co-worker got fired - by the new manager. She should have left well enough alone. It is about choosing your battles. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If he treats you well, keep quiet about it. You really have nothing to gain by telling. True, he lied on his resume and that may be cause for concern for what he tells you but IF he were to screw you over...you can then tell...and he knows it...

Yeah! I say save it up and use it if you have to. You have the upper hand! I suspect he'll start being REAL nice to you from now on. Just remember not to abuse your "power" cuz that'd be just as bad.
