5th Receptionist in 15 Months!

I've been with this company for 15 months now. It's not an easy place to work. This company, boss and its senior employees, delight in belittling, putting down, shattering self-confidence and trying to make people run and leave. They do it with the phones, electronic gadgets going off at well-timed moments, and, yes, subtle threats. As an example, too, you could go to move your hand on the mouse at the computer when there is dead silence. All of a sudden, someone will cough, shuffle their feet, or slam or drop something loudly, literally scaring the begeebies out of you. Sometimes when you're talking, especially, when you first start, people will talk over you, cough loudly, clear their throats, act like you don't exist, or all of a sudden, inner office calls come over the intercom at appropriate moments to drown you out -- their way of letting you know that you're not even important enough to listen to, leaving a person to either repeat themselves or shutup. I asked another employee, who has been with this company for six years now, how many receptionists she has seen come through the door. She lost count! And the company was disappointed with the last receptionist because she was too friendly and wasn't tough enough. What are we looking for here, an Amazon woman???

It's not uncommon for new employees with my organization to quit within the first two weeks (and it happens with regularity). I pride myself as being a people person, able to deal with just about everybody, and I tend to be quite patient. That being said, I think the people in your organization and the people in my organization deserve each other. Please know that the problems you are encountering aren't about you - they aren't in response to anything you have done (or haven't done). You jusr seem to be stuck with a group of people who are clickish, self-centered, and oblivious to the individuality of others. They seem to have made workplace hostility a competitive sport (the EEOC would have fun with them) where it is the survival of the fittest. I'm SO sorry for all thst you are enduring for the sake of paying bills and making a living...

Well, all these stories are at least helping me to cope with my crazed organization.
