My boss has a favorite and it isn't me

For the last 10 months, I have worked at a tiny non-profit. Just my boss, one other coworker and me. I loved it at first...great money, interesting work, lovely office.

Then it went bad, really bad. Slowly, I realized my coworker manipulates our boss with her moods. She and I are stuck 8 hours today in one tiny office and you can imagine how hard that is in itself. But, when she gets mad at our boss, she gives her the 'silent treatment'(my coworker is 55 years old!). My boss responds by spending the day kissing up to her until she talks to her again. Unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating.

She has turned her wrath on me but I ignore it. I feel if she isn't adult enough to tell me what is bothering her, then she can give me the silent treatment as long as she wants.

So here's how it works:
If my coworker is happy, then my boss is happy.
If my coworker is mad, then everything must stop.

Sound nutty? It is. And I'm stuck watching the whole thing.

To add salt to the wound, my boss micromanages me. But only me, of course. She keeps a close eye on everything I do and it has, finally, affected my self-esteem. I work at a place where everyone views themselves as my boss. Worse, I have no ownership in the work I do. My coworker often takes the calls meant for me. And my boss rarely "manages" my coworker because, God forbid, she will respond with anger.

More favoritism - Earlier this week I was processing payroll. My boss had mentioned a bonus way back at Christmas. Somehow it never happened. She assured me it would be done eventually (it's April and still no Christmas bonus!) Here's the kicker...While procesisng payroll, I discovered my coworker received a HUGE bonus in early January. Both my boss and the coworker got the bonus but, somehow, I missed out.

So I'm micromanaged, I'm the odd guy out, I am seeing my moody coworker shamelessly manipulate our boss until she is puddy in her little hands.

I just can't do it anymore. The question I have is, what do I say when I quit? I don't want to burn bridges, of course. But my boss is completely whipped.

I think I am just going to tell her that it isn't working out. Be vague and leave it at that...also, I might mention that her close supervision (er, mircormanaging) leads me to believe she doesn't trust my judgement. And the poor communication between us is not a good working relationship for either of us.

I can hardly tell her she is being played like a fiddle but, man alive, how I would like to!

Anyway, any thoughts or advice would be very much appreciated. I plan to give my notice in the next week or so. Again, my thanks in advance!!
