I worked for America's Team and it was anything but American. My boss was embezzeling over a million dollars a year from the owner, she treated her staff with disrespect and cruelty. She slept her way to the top, so she felt she was untouchable. As managers we were not allowed to take intiative and take care of daily business, mainly because she did not understand what we did and therefore had to control us by telling us what to do. If something did not go her way she would not talk to her staff for months at a time. If you needed a meeting you had to e-mail her and ask for a time you could im her to set up an appointment. She thought her time was valuable (her time consisted of sitting at her desk watching her nanny cam on tv. Did I mention she got pregnant by someone else's husband?)It was a daily routine to come in drunk and smelling of yesterday's bar clothes. On game day if you called her on the radio and did not say "ma'am" she would not answer same is true for if she called you. The only way you got anything done was by being a part of her exclusive group known as the Fab Five (nice for a 41 year old, huh?) In five years nineteen full time employees quit and two died of heart attacks (they were in the same position and died within two years of each other)

Man...studies have proven sh*t like that...that heart attacks are related to stress at work. Nothing is worth that, nothing!

haha - i warned you - why do you think i was so hell bent(literally) to get outta there?

Wow. My therapist told me my workplace was so toxic he did not want me to spend another day there, or even "five minutes". This sounds like the same kind of thing. He compared being in a place like this to being a fireman without a face-mask, breathing in toxic fumes. "How long," he asked me, "Do YOU think a fireman would last? Five minutes, ten? Maybr he won't know until 6 months later than he breathed in something that will kill him? Ho much of a chance do you think he should take?" Of course, I said, he should not take the chance at all, without the proper equipment. I thought he was just trying to make a point. Damn.

Sorry for your misfortune to be working for Skankerella. Unfortunately, it's that way in most companies. You have a devious little twit that is a legend in her own mind.

DHARMA; careful there. Some shrinks make their living telling their patients to quit. I saw three department shrinks and one paid by our lousy HMO. They had their own agenda and it did not include me. Nobody will hire an injured worker ever, but that bit of logic did not faze them.
Dharmadee(03/14/2006)
Yea, C---, I kind of got that from him, to tell you the truth. I can't deny that I am in a toxic place right now, but I am not about to bail, not by a long shot. Are you saying (and this is kind of making me sick, too), that he is telling me to quit to save them their damn unemployment costs? I am not really planning to take it further (unless I have to)-but the whole set up just REEKS. They are all about manipulations and game-playing at the expense of everyone who just wants to do a decent job for decent pay.

I worked for a boss who was very similar to this one. She made things so miserable for me that I actually had a mild stroke and was advised to take a one week leave of absence. I was going to quit when another department hired me. At first I wondered if perhaps the problems with my old boss was due to me when suddenly three other people in my old department quit. She lost four people in six weeks which set a record and she was advised by HR to "change her management style".
Dharmadee(03/14/2006)
So, she caused you to have a STROKE, and then 3 people quit...so they advised her to get a new "management style"??? Pardon me while I go tear my hair out...!

Spencer: You are correct.
SouthernProgrammer(03/15/2006)
Dharm - I never thought about it but you are correct, that was a rather odd statement by HR? "You know, you caused one stroke and lost four people in 6 weeks...perhaps that Management for Sadists course isn't working..."
