This was told to me last weekend and I had to put it up here. Sorry if any of you are into Dungeons and Dragons.
My buddy's boss was telling him about a guy he interviewed before him. He asked the guy to tell him about a time where he had to show leadership in a situation. Meaning a WORK situtation. Well the guy put on a straight face and launched into a story about time where he was Dungeon Master in an online version of Dungeons and Dragons and went on and on about how he felt when having to exhibit leadership skills and qualities as "Dungeon Master"... going into total geek speak and getting all excited about how he had to lead other players out of danger or something. COME ON BUDDY. It's not real! Needles to say, he didn't get the j-o-b.
Now I know I'm probably gonna hear from a bunch of people defending their beloved role playing "blah blah blah"...But seriously, what you do on your own time is all fine and dandy and whatever floats your boat yadda yadda yadda, but at work? In an interview? HILARIOUS.

Oh geez... At my job, one of the propesctive hires was asked to describe how he performs under pressure and to give an example. She told a story of how she had to change a tire on an expressway. Yeah. I get it. It was performing under pressure. But it hardly shows how she would perform at WORK under pressure. Ok slap me if I sound like management.

That is awesome! I would have found a job in the company just so I could have hired that guy. I don't play D&D - but I love how innocent this guy was!

Being a gamer myself, I can see where this geek dude was coming from, but I put a very thick line between my playtime activities, and what I do at work. I mean, come ON! It's fantasy! NEVER geek out on your potential boss like that and start spouting game-speak! For one, they won't understand you, and two, it really isn't a mainstream enough kind of a culture that he won't be creeped out by it! Gawd, keep it to yourself! My husband and I are avid gamers (not D&D, but we love to play the traditional 'books and die' games),however, I don't bring that stuff to work! I don't want to scare people! I believe it's a great creativity outlet, but it's not something you want to broadcast to your superiors.... Yeesh.... I don't know how many times or ways I could say it....
