I didn't quit, I got fired....for being my fiance's fiance

My fiance and I have worked at this little mom and pop store for a while, him on and off for ten years, myself four (also on and off) Business has been on the decline for many years, so we all goof around when there are no customers. The owner was a drunken fool who would "go stock the beer cooler" which we all knew meant that he was kicking back a few in there. It didn't matter because he was really laid back. My fiance worked in the redemption center of the store, where customers brought back bottles, and though it's a crap job, it was still a job and he stuck with it, even on his days off when there was no one to cover a shift, he would go in and work.
There's this girl that works there we'll call Brown-noser. She has a thing for my fiance, and would touch his butt, rub her boobs against him, talk about how miserable she was in her marriage and how she'd like a real man like my fiance. Oh, did I mention she went into graphic details about her sex life as well? Anyway, my fiance and another guy that worked in the redemption would get tips from the customers. If you had ever worked in a redemption, you's understand why...they get covered in stale beer, cut by broken bottles..they have found syringes in the bags, etc. Brown-noser decided that they were stealing bottles from the customers and told the boss. Why someone would steal bottles is beyond me, but anyway, the boss tells my fiance and the other guy not to steal, and they didn't. So all is fine, until Sunday. Brown-noser would call my fiance all sorts of names, and he and the other guys would always shoot it back at her, just messing around. Sunday, my fiance went to get a sandwich for lunch, and said "I'm grabbing my sandwich f*ckface" joking around like they always do. She had decided months ago to get rid of him because he rejected her sexual advances and whined to the owner. Monday...my fiance goes to work and comes back. He's been fired. Hmmm, ok, I think, I'll try to get more hours. Then he tells me the kicker, "You've been fired too, because you're my fiance." Wait a second here, I did nothing wrong other that work at this place, waiting for more hours...I called up the owner who ignored what I told him before about brown-noser and her sexual advances and was told that because I'm engaged to my fiance, I no longer have a job. We've been together for five years...he hired us as a couple because we were his best workers...Anyway, I am currently lodging a lawsuit against him for unlawful termination. Wish me the best!

OUCH! Messy! Good luck with the lawsuit. I think you would have a case. But that is, of course, an unprofessional opinion.

I don't understand why in the world you would even bother to file a lawsuit against a "Mom and Pop" operation...that has business on the decline..and a person who came onto your fiancee for any reason other than revenge. Think about it, if they had NOT fired you...would you have continued to work at a place that fired your fiancee for rejecting advances? I seriously doubt you will gain anything out of a lawsuit except a waste of your time.

Actually, because I have a 5 year old child that I need to support, I would have worked there until I found another job. And I did speak with several lawyers as well as the Attny. General and they all agreed that I had a case. If the lawsuit puts them out of business, good. It's illegal to drink on store property, and I'd love to see the owner get busted for that...

Sounds like you got out of situation that could only hold you both back. It does depend on what state you are in, but I would hope you at least get unemployment. Good luck!

Brown-nose is probably banging the boss.

I do wish you the best, but what state do you live in? In most states you wouldn't have a cause. I think things happen for a reason, I'd be happy actually that you have both broken free from this place. I for one wouldn't appreciate if my man had someone rubbing up against him all of the time. I'm thinking you will both be just fine and you'll find new employment sooner than later. :)
