Thanks for this website! It's a good place to vent where I know there are others who can relate.
Has anyone ever been in the following situation?
After being a SAHM for 4 plus years, I am now working for an insurance company where they took me into HR after 3 days and told me that if I didn't "pick up the pace" I'd be gone by Friday. HARSH!!!
My job requires data entry and client contact by phone. They want me to learn one thing at a time, which is reasonable enough, so they had me training with someone to learn the data entry program they use first.
While trying to grasp the program at the trainer's work station, she had to take phone calls and kick me off her computer to look up data and help the clients on the telephone.
I don't know about you, but I have a hard time grasping things when someone is looking over my shoulder. I perform better if I have my own space, and work at my own pace, which may be just a bit slower than others, but I am not a moron!
To make a long story longer, the department director had me in the HR office that Wednesday, and alleged that I was deceptive at the job interview. I countered that by saying that they were aware of my situation going in...they knew my deal, and it was basically their decision to hire me, given the info I provided at the interview. I was in shock that I was getting raked over the coals after 3 days on the job! Now I feel a little unwanted and feel that my confidence has been shaken a bit. Not a good way to start a new job.
What would you have done in my situation? At first I was angry and wanted to tell them to "stick it" on Friday, but I reconsidered and decided to stick it out instead, just to show them that I am capable of doing the job. I've always had a pretty strong work ethic, so I plan on kicking ASS, just to show them how wrong they were about me.
How can anyone expect to know and master something in 3 days time!!!

Good for you for sticking it out! Shame on them for treating you this way. They should be providing an environment where they can train you well and encourage you to foster your growth there. Generally, new hires are like soft clay---ready to be molded into what the company needs. They should be building your confidence, not shaking it. Me? I'd give it my absolute best 110% for a month, and then if they seem to have the same attitude, I'd part ways because nothing will make them happy. Both ways, you won't ever feel like you didn't give it a chance and you can hold your head high. If it works out, you can chalk it up to a bad first week and if it doesn't, you will know you did YOUR part. Best of luck to you!
