After 30 years at a major airplane manufacturer right here in the Pacific Northwest, my position was outsourced. In the year previous we were feeling somewhat secure, due to the fact that the company was spending a lot of money for training (Japanese consultants,Lean manufacturing etc.) Things were looking so rosy that we even voted down union representation. We then aquired a new division from another major airplane manufacturer located in Long Beach California, and along with that,a new V.P.The one and only time that I saw this person was when the company bussed us to an offsite location for a "meeting". I knew we were screwed when I noticed security guards at the doors...Mr.V.P. proceeded to tell us that the operation had been outsourced and that we would be getting 60 day layoff notices upon our return to work.To make matters worse, they had decided to keep a "select few" within the company to act as advisors to the new company. What ensued was more undermining and backstabbing to attain those positions than you would believe. As a final touch.I recieved my 30 year pin and my 2 week notice in the same week......Nice job Earl, all that money you saved came in handy when you sent the remaining "select few" to DISNYLAND.

Outsourcing is not saving the companies much money nor do I think they get the same production value either. Sorry this happened to you.

Unethical!! I am really sorry that happened to you. Hopefully you will be able to put it behind you and rise above it...

GO LEAN! I myself am a student of LEAN. OK, I was forced to study it. It actually does work. But...what they did to you sucks. And like you, I was outsourced. First to South Carolina and then THEY were outsourced to Mexico. I was offered a job in SC. Glad I didn't take it. I bailed and I hear that the Pacific NW plant where I was also closed up shop. The same loyal managers that outsourced are now looking for work too. Good luck to you.
