Home > How I Quit My Job

Yep! I did that.

About a year and half ago the company I worked for merged with another company. There was a person at the other company who did the same job as me. Now we are both in a position to be promoted and oversee the newly expanded department.

When it came down to who would be promoted the other person got the position even though I had more education, 5 years more experience, and a proven track record.
As if that wasn't bad enough they actually said to me "He doesn't have your experience or background so we need you to train him".

So apparently I wasn't qualified enough for the position, but I was qualified enough to train my replacement.

The next day I handed in my two week notice and after 13 years with this company I was done.

Why does it seem like corporate America does NOT want qualified people at all (hence rejecting people with advanced degrees and "overwhelming" resumes), but yet the people who slack the most, are the ditziest, and have less education seem to have an easier time getting work? If we continue on this path and all the hi-tech jobs are outsourced, then I give us 25 years before the US is the 3rd-world country and India the prestigious superpower.
