I recently accepted a position with an up and coming retail chain. I interviewed for with the newly hired store manager and the district manager. during the interview I was told by the store mgr. that we were a team and that she never got angry becuz anger was a waste of time. She also stated that she did not micromanage. I believe this was all for the listening pleasure of the DM. I felt this was a great company to work for. however--none of what she said in the interview rang true. I am beginning to wonder if I truely am the assistant manager. She doesn't allow me to manage. Rarely leaves me in the store alone. she steals customers from everyone including her parttimers. She told one person that she knew she could get more money out of the customer. I think this is going a little bit too far. When I interviewed with her I really didn't like her but I wanted the job. I am considering going back to my old job, but there is no chance for advancement there. I am hoping she gets fired or quits at sometime. She has not lasted very long as her other places of employment. I just don't know if I can wait her out. She is very into herself. everyone thinks she is great according to herself. everything is IIII and mememe...getting ready to puke as we speak. one part-timer told her flat out that she was arrogant. She asked me if that was true. I was subconsciously gagging and choking out the words No, I just think you were being honest about your abilities. I can't stand her and neither can anyone else that works for her. everyone is sick of her grabbing customers away from her employees and such....

I was told by me store manager that the DM doesn't want to hear whining and complaining (probably trying to cover herself) and I am also unsure of protocol.

>"She has not lasted very long as her other places of employment"< That's it in a nutshell. Give it a few months. She'll be gone and you'll be able to breathe and then you'll all laugh about her afterwards.

I swear I think this person used to work here because some of the catch phrases you mentioned sound VERY familiar. She had management fooled into thinking she was the greatest thing since sliced bread! If it is the same person, just hang in there, she doesn't last more than a year at any place before her lies start to become unraveled..

Anybody who feels they have to state that they DON'T do something...DOES. ie...people who are good managers don't go around telling people that they are good managers...they just ARE.

Why can't you call the District Manager and speak to him/her about it? I mean, what do you have to lose? You say you are going to leave anyway? Take a chance, call the DM, if it falls apart in your face...slink back to your old place of employment or another job. You never know, the DM might just be aware of the problems OR if he/she isn't, then by you present the situation he'll at least be aware of your complaints. Please, keep us posted on the outcome. People like your store manager need to be called on the carpet for their attitudes. People just CAN'T keep going through life thinking they are 'okay' when in fact nobody can stand them. We need to start deflating some of these overfed ego's!!!!
