I had been working as a Medical Office Manager for eleven years for two ego-maniacial physicians. We saw easily 100 people per day and I triaged and fielded hundreds of stressful telephone calls every single day. Nobody appreciated anything, no matter how often I took the best possible care of as many as I could. Then two more physicians were brought into the group. With no increase in salary, just double the work, double the complaints and patients. I'd about had enough.
I needed to have surgery and told them I'd be out for 3 weeks. They didn't like it, but they couldn't object. So, I interviewed and hired 4 young inexperienced college students. (It was all I could get with the salary they paid.) The salary was barely above minimum wage. I walked out on a Friday knowing I'd never return. I left the keys to the office behind. One woman only lasted 4 hours and quit. The others hung in there. I fielded their questions from my home while I recouped. Little by little they caught on that I'd planned on never coming back. The boss doc came to my house and asked me to kindly reconsider. I asked him I would, if and when he'd pay me for the three weeks off I required for the surgery. He said, sorry he cannot do that. I said, sorry... I cannot return.
Ciao Doc...
Man did I feel great after that. Now I have a job that doesn't make me want to climb on top of a post office and start shooting. Mental Health is a beautiful thing you know.
