My loser boss was hired after my (great!) old boss left. Loser-boss would never meet with me and barely knew her job. Our only meeting was to discuss how I must cut my staff. She had hired a friend from her old job to do "fluff" work. Despite giving "loser" my data showing that my dept. had fewer staff & more work than other units of the same size, she went ahead. She had the nerve to tell me 2 weeks before XMas when I happened to come to her office to ask her about something else! As I was leaving, she said "by the way, the staff cut is effective in 2 weeks." So I had to cut one person's job to part-time & tell them -- the week before XMas.
The happy ending is that my loser boss quit 6 months later and my next boss gave me a big raise. On top of that our entire division was in such disarray after loser-boss that I am now hiring a fulltime person and taking vacations!

Glad to see success stories. I was laid off just before Christmas and told it wasn't personnel. I wish I had the guts to tell my former boss, yes it was personal, it is just before Christmas, or no, you're right, it isn't personal, if you cared at all, you wouldn't let someone go right before Christmas. I'm not sure which one is the worst.

Wonder what happened to loser boss' fluff-job friend? I too love a "happy ending".
