I am currently looking for a new job. Yesterday morning a recruiter tried to talk me into taking a position that is about 1 hour and 45 minute commute. The job has no 401K or retirement benefits and no flex time or any other sort of perk that might offset a commute. When I told him that it just won't work for me and that I need to find something closer to home because I have a baby and a 2 year old, he actually said to me "Look, lady...those kids will grow up and go to school. This job is not gonna wait. You need to take it now." After I was silent (and fuming) he added "Realistically, you actually OWE it to your kids to take this job. You don't want to let them down do you?". CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? Thankfully I had the presence of mind to tell him that I owed it to MYSELF to "hang up on you now, sir". So I did! What a Jerk! All he saw was his commission. They're like sharks!

>They're like sharks! You are correct! I dealt with a recruiter a few weeks ago who talked up this job that sounded really good. Then I went to interview on site and while the people were nice the facility was absolutely filthy! I mean REALLY filthy! When I told the recruiter it just wasn't going to work out he told me I shouldn't judge the place by its looks. Easy for him to say while sitting in his nice clean office talking to me over a phone....

A recruiter was so disgusted with my refusal to take just any old job that she finally said, "Do you know of anyone who has no skills like you who might need a new position? I'm always looking for more clients." My comment back was appropriately sarcastic which felt sooooooo goood...and then I found my own job.

I do not deal with recruiters anymore they are too obnoxious. I had one call and ask to come in for an interveiw RIGHT NOW...another one wanted me to drive 60 miles each way to interveiw for a temporary job.

Wow - thanks for sharing your stories on this! I thought I was the only one that had encountered a recruiter that actually acted like a baby when I refused the job. Maybe Corp. America should cut out recruiters, so they have more money for salaries, and won't need to outsource!

You're definitely not the only one. There are plenty of idiotic head-hunters who need to be taken down a few pegs. Jeez.
