When I first started working at the school district my boss was a very brilliant but strange person who had many quirks.
One day, when I was packing up to make the rounds at 8:00 he came in and said "Don't leave! We HAVE to have a meeting at 10:00!"
I answered that one of the schools had a server that was down and they could not get their attendance records printed but was still told "Don't leave!"
So, for the next few hours I fielded phone calls and waited nervously while he said and typed at his computer. At 9:30 he asked "Where is [co-workers name]?" I said he was out and he told me to page him and get him in here because we HAD to have a 10:00 meeting.
So I paged my co-worker with a 912 and when he called I said "I don't know what's up but [bosses first name] is INSISTANT that we have a 10:00 meeting! I haven't even been able to make it out!"
With a perturbed sigh my co-worker said he would head in and at 9:55 he and I were sitting at a table in our area. At 10:05 our boss quit typing at his computer, stood up, walked over to us and gave us each a document and said "Check that over for accuracy, I'm going home and will see ya'll tommorrow".
He then walked out of the building.
The document was simply a recap of last months work. My co-worker and I looked at each other and then he said "Welp, that was productive! I'm going back to my school". I then grabbed my stuff and headed out also.
Incidently, that was the last time we saw our boss. He called in sick for a month after that and an investigation uncovered a drinking problem.

HAHAHAHAAAA! I had one like this once too where the manager made everyone stay late for it. He said he decided he just wanted to "get the vibe" ("Vibe" and "pulse" were his favorite words). One of my coworkers actually stood up and said "Well, Ken...my vibe is leaving now, I have to pick up my kid" and just walked out! =) Yes!

sounds so familiar. How many times have I gone in to the office for a "mandatory" meeting only to discover that it should have actually been "optional" or "unecessary". Also up in my top 10 are the "meetings about past meetings" or "meetings about scheduling more meetings".
