When I first started my job, I didn't realize that there wasn't a maid who cleaned for the office.
On my first day of work, I took a mug from the cabinet for coffee. At the end of the day, I placed it into the sink.
On day two, I took a clean mug from the cabinet. At the end of the day, I placed it into the sink.
On day three, I took a clean mug from the cabinet. At the end of the day, I placed it into the sink -- now realizing that three mugs were sitting there. Yuk, I thought.
On day four, I took a clean mug from the cabinet. At the end of the day, I placed it into the sink.
Needless to say, I repeated this scenario for a whole month straight. I was too nervous to claim responsibility for the mugs, because of being new, so when people started noticing all of the mugs in the sink, they were wondering who was using all of the mugs and leaving them in the sink.
I decided to make a game out of it. After all, I was in it too deep at this point. I just kept using clean mugs and placing them into the sink. I wanted to see how long this would go on for.
When the cabinet was out of clean mugs, I held onto the last mug that I had and kept rewashing it.
Those dirty mugs sat there -- no lie -- in the sink for about two and an half months!!! I couldn't do anything but laugh.
Then finally, one girl decided to clean the mugs -- after months of people talking about all of the dirty mugs in the sink.
Now all of the mugs are clean, and I still use that last mug that I took from the cabinet. I guess this is what happens when you're new to a company, and you're not sure how everything is run.
I have to chuckle when I think about how they still haven't figured out the whole story behind the mug saga, though!

But if you kept and washed the last one, why wouldn't you have done that all along?

I guess everyone's humor is different, but I wanted to see how long the mugs would sit there before anyone did anything about them -- after I had noticed that there wasn't a maid to take care of them. I figured I could clean the four or five mugs, in the beginning, and put them away, or I could make a game out of it. I decided to have a little fun with it. And I washed the last mug out, well, because there weren't any clean mugs left. (I could always say, too, "I've been cleaning this one mug out," if ever asked.) It was very comical, though, especially when you consider how full the sink was with them, the way people were talking and laughing about the mugs still being in the sink; and no one did anything about them.

I once saw a sales rep allow mounds of garbage (and I do mean mounds) to pile up around her desk because taking out her own stinky trash (we were a very small company). How she could stand the stench was beyond me. Eventually someone put a sign that said "Kate the Trash Monster" on the pile and it disappeared. Amazing as it is childish!

What I meant to say is she thought taking out her trash to the dumpster right where she parked was demeaning. Glad I worked in another section of the office!

What made you think that a maid (or clerk) was going to clean up after you? Even when there is janitorial services everybody washes their own **** mug.
