My company is a revolving door. The funny thing is, it's the managers that revolve out! The place is owned by a group of private partners that want to squeeze every dime out the resort. Since it's a fancy place, I make huge tips even though my basic wage is low (thanks to all who have tipped your friendly neighborhood bellman!). Making any sort of serious salary here makes one a target. One of my fellow bellman always wanted to be in charge-despite the fact he drinks WAAAYYY too much, has stalked various female staff members, and even slashed the tires of a front desk manager that wouldn't let him borrow his car! He's well-connected, so when our manager was forced out, he announced that he was "biting the bullet" and taking over. The next day, while a bunch of us were waiting for check-outs to call down, he launched into this speech about how if anybody screwed up "they'd be outta here" and that "he wasn't playing their game". Joining in on the fun, we asked what would happen if this one or that one acted up. "They'd all be out!" he fumed, his face the color of a plum (a mixture of hangover and rage). Then, taking a deep breath, he hissed "I can fire MYSELF if I want to...I have that power now!" The betting pool on when he self-destructs is getting up there. What's worse , we hear that he now makes less in salary then we do on $6/hr. and tips. Three words to describe it all...PA-THET-IC...
