10 Years ago I accepted a position at a major Home Entertainment MFG plant. I won't post the name but trust me, you've heard of them.
Originally I had a long litany of the ridiculous things this person did but decided to start over. If you were to look up the term alpha-bitc_ in the dictionary you would see a picture of my old boss.
This person was so heck-bent on proving how smart she was (she wasn't) that she would even contradict her own employees in meetings with other managers on statements we made. Then, when she realized she was cornered with a false statement she would say "Lets meet in my office after the meeting". Which was code for "I'm going to chew you out for making me look stupid when I was trying to make you look stupid".
Once, one of my co-workers (who HAD been acting manager before this person was hired and for some reason did not get the job of manger) and our manager from hell had a "net meeting" session with the departmental head who was at headquarters in another state. They were using netmeeting go over a presentation and a conference phone to talk. My co-worker corrected a false statement by our boss and when the meeting was over and the phone was hung up our boss proceeded to chew her out royally. What she did NOT do was hang up netmeeting and her laptop microphone was on so headquarters heard every word of it. After the chewing out session was over the big boss called our boss and asked why one of the departments best workers was being chewed out? Surprisingly, she managed to weasel out of that!
A few years later, I was looking for a job outside of the company when a manager (who was highly disliked by our boss) from corporate called and offered me a position within his department. I had known him for years and knew he was very cool to work for. He told me I would not have to move but could work out of the plant and even work from home if I needed to. Even better, he offered me a raise far more than my old boss had ever given me so naturally I accepted the position.
When my old boss found out she freaked out, she wanted to see the actual writeup of the position and claimed she had never seen it posted (corporate positions aren't posted locally) and then tried to block it by informing Human Resources I was not a good fit because I was very difficult to manage and was prone to "leaving early" (all lies). Human Resources pulled out her reviews of my work for two years and informed her that she had never mentioned it before and had even given me good reviews.
So she quickly backed off and gave me "I hope it works out for you" dismissal and then proceeded to act as if I had never existed.
Two weeks after that, two of my old co-workers left the company and gave the HR Manager an earful about her. He asked why any of this hadn't mentioned this before and he was informed that EVERYONE had mentioned the problems to him at a skip level meeting but he basically ignored us. One employee even had a copy of an "agreement" HR had given us that our boss had signed on areas she would improve upon (criticism, marking up all our work with a red pen as if we were in school) and had ignored! They told him they were even taking pay CUTS to leave the company!
This sent a huge message to the entire plant and within one week she was reduced to a laughing stock for having three out of five people quit within three weeks to get away from her.
Not surprisingly, she is still clueless and has dismissed everyone who quit as not being made of "the right stuff".

Sometimes I think these people might have some little tidbit in their pocket too. There was a woman where I used to work who got away with everything under the sun yet they promoted her and turned the other cheek at all her antics. It got me to thinking that she must have seen someone do something they shouldn't have done and that saved her. I once met her husband who came to work one day. He asked me how I liked working for her and I said "fine". His response was "she's a real b*tch aint she?"

As I've said before, companies are afraid of people like this. Imagine if she decided to say she was harassed by the HR manager, etc. It's not hard to imagine what this habitual liar could make up on the spot!
