When I was in school, I worked at Express in a mall in a Chicago suburb and I absolutely hated it. They care about the dumbest things like "military style clothes hanging" and you have to keep folding things all day long even after customers unfold them, it's like some sort of folding hell. And they lied to me when they hired me! I told them I was in school and I had a second job and I could only work 1 weekend day. They said this would be fine and that there were other girls there that have the same circumstances and that we would rotate weekend days. I started on a Wednesday and the very first week they scheduled me to work all day Friday, Saturday and Sunday! They also told me that I would not work on commission. This was great news to me because I don't like to pressure people to buy things they don't need or look good in. Well, lo and behold...I DID work on commission, but not for money. For each dollar amount marker I sold up to I got to pick out a piece of jewlery. Ooooooh, jewlery! And I was required to sell a certain amount of coats to make a "reward". My manager would come up to me through the day and say "OK you only sold 1 coat. You need to sell 3 more today and then she would show me my sales amounts on her clipboard and tell me I need to do more." If I don't work on commission, why are you showing me that? They encouraged me to tell people they looked great in a coat or clothes when they tried things on even if they didn't!! Plus they don't pay you crap but they expect you to buy their expensive clothes and wear them to work. On top of it all, the store closed at 9 and I regularly wouldn't get to leave until midnight because the dictator manager wouldn't let anybody leave until the store was spotless and she approved all the hangers were even. Mind you, I was like 17 at the time and these were school nights. When I quit a few weeks later, I quit over the phone and my snotty manager said "OK then you are no longer a part of the Express family." Good riddance!

"The family" Sheesh. Are you sure it was a retail store and not the mafia? Good thing you quit over the phone or else they might have given you that death kiss on the mouth thing like in the Godfather.
