I made the biggest mistake of my career recently when I joined up with a sourcing firm to work on a project in Texas. I was a consultant for years mind you, and quite use to working long hours when needed to get a project done. But this sweat shop is ridiculous. They have about 30 of us working 12-14 hour days including weekend. I get paid hourly, but they only let me bill 40 hours since "overtime" is not approved for this client. So basically I am working for free half the time. Amazingly, many of the offshore resources working on this project love it. I for one do not want to become a drone like them. I enjoy living life with my wife and kids way too much.
I don't want to bail, because I'll look like I quit. A few more months and I can put this project behind me and move on. Wish me luck.

This is how it goes too..."You don't want to work long hours for cheap? Awww...your family and life are important to you? I'm sorry you feel that way, we'll just get someone else in another country that will be happy to be exploited." It angers me so much to think about these corporate bigwigs who are raking in the cash and who have America by the balls. It is high time we fought back. They want us to make work the #1 most important thing in our lives. Why? Because it makes THEM more money and gets THEIR companies ahead. Hats off to you for realizing that your family and LIFE come first. I feel sad for all the people who go to their grave knowing they worked their butt off for a company who didn't give a crap about them at the cost of their own life. I know so many people who put in 25+ years at a company only to be pissed on in the end.
