Flame Wars

I'm laughing as I type this. I work with a group that is stationed in the North East and (as you can imagine) is full of people who tend to vote Democrat. Only one other person and myself tend to be conservative.

Note - I am not tied to the Republican party, I tend to vote for the person whom I think will do the best job or (in the case of Kerry Vs Bush) will do the least amount of damage.

Anyway, one person in our group is an ex-hippie type who is staunchly liberal.

When things get boring, I or my like minded co-worker will fire off an email to the group with something like "Man, that Rush Limbaugh is one intelligent person. He is really ripping Hillary today"

We then wait...no response from our Hippy buddy? Lets try again

"Boy, that George Bush is one smart person. I really like the job he is doing and wish he could run again"

Wait...here is comes!

Hippie: "What kind of MORON would say that!?!? How can ANY intelligent being SUPPORT this idiot! He has RUINED the country"

My buddy and I then start responding and the email wars will go on for a few hours. Our record so far is two days on one long flame.

We are all friends though, and go out drinking when we are together. That's the sign of a good group, one that can disagree on politics and still work well together and be friends.

It's a fun way to pass the day.

Hmm, here's a good article debunking global warming...time to stir things up a little...

Awwww, SP...you're funny but you just lost a bunch of points in my book!! A JobSchmobber AND a conservative? Is that even possible??? I guess I forget you're from the South! ;-)

If I worked with you, I'd take you out for a drink and try to make you see things like a Democrat! Hopefully we'd laugh about it together the next day and agree to disagree!

You're cruel but I love ya! - Avid

Avid, I lean more towards conservatism but am not a died in the wool conservative.

IMO - The race for President will be between Obama and McCain. While I lean towards McCain because of his experience I would not be upset at all if Obama won. I think he speaks very well and gives people hope which is something this country could use right now.

Dang it! I should have said "Dyed in the wool" not "Died in the wool"

Darn liberal based education system...

:)

Being an Independent, I too vote for the person of lesser damange.

But here is one I had heard before ...

A couple of guys wonder into a country bar for a drink but had no money. So the two come up with a plan to get free beer.

The first guy, figuring that since they were in a red-neck bar would be Republican yelled out "Doesn't Kerry's face look like a horse's rear?"

Well a couple of big fellas come over and knock the cr@p out of him!

Well that didn't work so maybe they are Democrates!

The second guy yells out "Doesn't Bush's face look like a horse's rear?"

Well a couple of different fellas come over and knock the cr@p out of the second guy!

After both have been totally beaten up the two ask the bartender why they were beaten so. The bartender states "This is horse country!"

hee hee. Don't worry SP, I'm a member of your boat in a way myself. I AM a member of the republican party, but I consider myself open-minded (so I guess I'm not a staunch conservative). If I think an idea will work, I'll try it.
I don't think I'd be upset if Obama won either, but I'm scared to death of Hillary! I think she wants to rule the world with an iron fist! All I can see is that teeny-tiny little hyphen-shaped moustache growing under her nose...
I'd love for a woman to be president someday, just not HER!

CK that's friggin' funny!

SP,
I'm a Republican but turned off since 1996. Somewhat conservative to moderate. Tend to vote for the party/person that makes the most sense. And sometimes it's the liberals/Democrats.

Anyways, isn't discussing politics a "no-no" at work? I don't do it because it can cause friction.

I have a coworker, not the brightest chap in the world. He's a Bush-hating liberal and never passes up a chance to make an anti-Bush joke or make some political comments. Also rants about how evil and imperialist America is. I had to travel with him to another site for 1 week and had to have dinner with him, drive to the office with him, and socialize with him for a week. And he just kept prosletyzing about his politics.

I finally had it when he kept bashing America. I reminded him that he was an immigrant and he was from Iran. If he disliked America so much, why was he still here? Why didn't he move to a better country like Canada or socialist Sweden? Or even back to Iran? That kept him quiet...for a week or so. Then he started running at the mouth again.

He doesn't realize that people at work find him annoying with his preachiness about politics. No one likes to be preached about politics or religion.

Bonus - I ONLY discuss politics with those whom I know will not get too fired up about the subject. The group I work with is a wonderful bunch - including our hippie. We can disagree and then all get together for break (when we are all together) and then continue on. On the other hand, there is a person that I know who is very liberal and I will NEVER discuss politics with that person as it gets ugly.
