The optional mandatory meeting

Ok. This just happened to me today and I found it entertaining enough that I had to share it. I go to lunch at about 12:10. I get back around 1:10 and see a meeting invite in my email. The meeting is defined as optional and it was sent to the entire group. It was some webcast from a ceo of a vendor we use. Real exciting stuff. Anyway, I have lots of work to do and would be late already anyway, so I pass on it. It was optional, so I thought nothing of it. Well later on I get an email from my boss asking why I skipped the meeting and he went on to say how I should have been there, how important it was, etc. My question is, if it is so important, why did you schedule it 30 minutes before the start time DURING lunch when no one is at there computer AND make it optional? Thumbs up to the new boss...
