Home > How I Quit My Job

If The Shoe Fits

Years ago I worked in a shoe store. My boss was generally a nice guy, but he thought that we should all put in 12 hour work days. If he had his way, it would be seven days a week, but he "allowed" us one day off per week. Well, even with the long hours, we weren't allowed to take breaks, even a lunch break. I needed the job, so I put up with it for a while. But then I remembered that hey, a person's gotta eat, so I started walking over to the nearby Taco Bell or McDonald's and getting something to eat. He confronted me one day, and asked where I was going. I told him that I needed to take breaks, and he said, "Well, if you do that, you'll probably miss out on that one big sale!" When I finally quit, he told me that he had big plans for me to transfer to a bigger store. I told him I had other aspirations than to sell shoes for the rest of my life.
