Home > How I Quit My Job

I don't want to work anymore

The company I was working for was being bought by a bigger company. They were going to reduce the work force in my office. They put out a list of the employees they wanted to keep and my name was on the list.
I accessed my situation and decided I did not want to work for them. All the "reduced" employees were getting a great severance package. Four months pay plus new job placement help. I was on the list, so I did not qualify for the package. If I quit I would get nothing.
So I began a quest to get on the list. I documented every task I was responsible for and made sure to train other employees how to do them. Then, every time I was asked by the "new guys" to do something I would refer them to an other employee. It wasn't long before they realized I was not contributing and they put me on the list.
I got a job I like much better and got to keep the severance package.
