HR Manager nickname is Sausage

I am so dam mad. I have been with a company for 6 years now. My reviews have always been above average. I found out a Temp worker was brought in making more per hour than I am. Several dollars to be exact. I requested a compensation study, my boss agreed. It was taken to HR, this horrificly bad HR manager that we have agreed. So the wait begins... Several weeks go by I ask what the status is.... HR manager says she has been very busy. This is the same HR manager that shows up whenever she feels like it, takes a daily 2 hour lunch, leaves everyday around 3 PM, chats with friends on the phone all day, deciding what kind of wine to take to a party. The same HR manager whose nickname is Sausage. Finally after more than 3 months, I ask my boss where this stands. Several days go by and no word. I ask him again and he tells me the HR manager said no I am compensated exactly where I should be. I am shocked, He tells me he is unable to make a compensation adjustment mid year without the approval of the HR Manager. I say to him, "Let me get this right. You value a Temp who has been here less than two months more than you value an employee who has been here 6 years, knows the business and all the employees, has always had an above average review, who has proven she can go above and beyond what her job requirements are. Who has brought community activites to the company." He said, "No, of course not. I have never said or thought that." I told him he just did. I am taking tomorrow off and have told him I may be taking next week off too. Not sure, I'll see how I feel. He asked if it was for a personal reason. I told him, "Nope, I'll be honest with you. I am so #$%@$^& pissed off I don't want to be around you or the HR Manager. I came home this evening, refreshed my resume, did a little networking, came up with a few leads. I have had it with these people. The HR manager is extremely young, has very little experience, has no experience with a huge corporation, was only a good fit because she works cheap and has the personality of a dead fish. My mind is made up, time to move on. Gotta get out of there!

Since when do HR Managers make final salary adjustment decisions?

Similar thing happened to me when I got my first job out of college. I had been there 2 years... I had stellar reviews... In fact I was rated the top employee in the department at my last review. They hired a new kid out of college who was making 8k more than me a year. I was up for a raise after my stellar review. They offered me a 4k raise. So basically they were telling me their "top" employee was worth far less than a new-hire (whom I was TRAINING!). I left a few months later after landing a new gig...

That would be my only advice to you. You never know how long it might take to find a new job... so I would hang on to the old one IF you need the money... helps make your departure that much more sweet when you have a new job already... =)

You have the right idea, get out of there! You have fallen into the unfortunate trap where you have been there long enough to the point your employer feels they have "got you" and you won't leave. Then, they pay newer employees more money in order to get them in the door as no-one sane would work in this place! Your manager is playing a high-stakes poker game with you, I will bet that WHEN you get a job offer your boss will suddenly find the money to up your salary. Don't fall for it! If they had cared about you they would have done this first. Oddly enough, this thing never happens to management...

SP are you saying Diane's situation never happens to those in management? If so, I am sorry but I wholley disagree. This very thing also happens in management. Only difference is the subordinates will never in a million years know.

RedFlames - I should have clarified - I'm quite there are cases if pay inequity in management BUT those cases seem to get resolved quicker. Companies don't want to train or look for managers as it is seen to be more expensive.

SP then it just must be dumb luck in my case and a couple of friends. Then again we are women. Maybe that is the reason we have experienced the same as the writer of the blog.
