I do nothing all day.

I am so bored at this job. I'm supposed to be doing something sooooooooo important that I can't even get holidays off. they neeeeeeed me here to answer the phones (5 calls per day). They neeeeeeeed my "help." (they do all the work themselves). The only questions I end up getting are why don't the toilets flush, can you call someone to fix it, or where do we go around here for a good beer.

I feel useless but I can't even take a damn vacation. Please help me.

Either ask to take on more responsbilities for more pay or get leave.

quit.

What in the world do you do? I recommend using the time to surf for another job or take some on-line courses to improve your skills. Heck, you would be getting paid to train for a better job!

I want to know what you do, too.??? What is allowable there in terms of filling-up your time? For instance, on-line course like SP said, IPOD, reading, on-line surfing and reading, magazines, newspapers...what could you get away with?

well i never (04/26/2007)
omg your getting paid to do nothing

what are you complaining about lol

Have to agree with "Will I Never." A very dear friend of mine was just making the same complaint to me two weeks ago. She called me this morning that she lost her job. As the other schmobber's posted obviously you want more responsibility, as such take some trainings. Could be worse. You could be like a majority of us who doesn't have a job after putting up with stuff you only see in horror movies OR at a job that is a daily nightmare.

Being bored is awful. But if you quit you may be broke, bored and stressed. I can do boredom--my job is constant confrontation so I would like boredom at work--like a day when we have standardized testing--it usually means that I won't have to struggle with just throwing my laptop and gradebook at my Boss, telling him I quit, swearing at him and walking out the door.

There is a reason why your employer or department manager wants a warm body present at all times. Try to find out!

Boring jobs keep you from getting experience, but can be a nice break.
Was your job boring from the start or did the tasks dwindle as time went by?

I've always dreaded slowdowns because it meant layoffs. Other people when bored invented dreadful bullying entertainments.

Save what you can from your paychecks and hope that your found your niche. If not get busy surfing and find something else. Then when you are too busy to breath you will think back remembering your boring job with kindness.

Clyde, you really should quit this job where you do nothing all day. Run, run like the wind! And please post the phone number for your boss so we can laugh at him. BTW - How much does this joy pay? :)

clyde(04/27/2007)
thanks. To the person who asked, I'm basically a paper pusher/file clerk/data entry person for what was once a large office and apparently phones were always ringing off the hook until 5:00 and there were deadlines. Then they laid off 60 people so there has been a major slowdown both in paper and calls. But they are still claiming that they "need" me there. Ridiculous.

Do you have a boss on-site or are you left alone pretty much all the time?
