I'll take "Buying a Clue" for $500, Alex

Well true believers, we're into week #4 here in the outsourcing abyss. I'm writing this because I feel compelled to share a few thoughts. This isn't really a story so much as it's more of a "things that make you go hmmm" category. As you know by now I'm into the 4th week in my position, but I'm still waiting for some definition as to what that is and what EXACTLY it is I'm supposed to be doing here. Hell, I'm not even sure who my manager is anymore and I've basically given up trying to find out.

Maybe that's the life of a consultant/contractor who knows but well, I think it's crap. Anyway, last week the guy whose clean up work I was doing asked me to evaluate some data and determine what was missing. I said no problem, can you tell me what I'm looking at? Rather than givean answer, another guy was brought in and he and I were supposed to work together to figure it out. Well, it's been 4 days now and we've barely spoken. I know I shouldn't complain about the inactivity but I'm apprehensive that I'll get asked "did you finish this...or what did you think of that" and I won't have a clue what they're talking about.

Now granted, I don't miss my previous position at all, but at least there was something to do and I knew at least vaguely what was going on. Everyone just seems to have something to do whereas I have really nothing.

The highlight (if you can call it that) was moving desks. Imagine the looks of confusion I got as I carried my desktop through three buildings. I love being in the main traffic seat again, honest I do. All the conversations behind me, people hitting my desk walls, putting things in my desk drawers. One guy oblvious that I was sitting there walked up said excuse me, moved my briefcase and stuck something in my desk drawer. What the heck is all this? You thoughts and opinions are welcome on this, and until next time just remember despite being here a month, I'm still...
