I need to vent before I reach out and touch someone upside their head!

I am just so tired of all the posturing, chest beating immature behaviour that is so accepted as normal! I can not take it anymore. It makes me want to cry! My boss actually admitted his sociopathic behaviour! He said it was good and is normal. Do you think that it is okay to purposely bait and annoy someone you dislike to hurt them, to get a reaction out of them? I responded to his statement that if you did that to someone who is not stable or may have little restraint, in a fit of rage could injure you seriously. He also said it was okay to scew someone over as long as they did not know they had been screwed over. Excuse me, but when did it become okay to scew someone over??????? He said as long as your victim did not know they were being screwed over you have won! Excuse me again, Won? Won what? What are you winning at? Life? As far as I know, everyone's final destination is death! Your not going to live forever! Do you win some kind of prize that I was not aware of? His behaviour is considered normal, my reaction abnormal! I feel so alone. I feel like an alien from a different planet. I feel like everyone I work with feels that this is acceptable. No one thinks that this is wrong! Oh I hate this so much. I am so tired of it. What is going on in this world? I am so sad, I feel like finding a deep cave and not ever coming out. I am afraid of the people I work with. Do you know what I said back to my boss after that, I said maybe the person knows that they are being screwed over, but they are waiting. Waiting for the opportunity to get even! So you dont win!

How awful! You are not alone, I think we all feel the same way here. That is so horrible. I hope he is not married or has children, because I really feel sorry for them. What a sociopath! I would start looking for a new job if I were you because he'll screw you over I am sure. And you know he is capable of much more than he admits too. What a pompus ass. And how shitty that you work in a place where everyone turns the other cheek or accepts it. That can drive anyone crazy and make you feel like you are in the twilight zone or that you are the wrong one. You're not alone!

No, you are not alone...but I am afraid that the attitude that you described so well is very prevalent in today's corporate mind-set. I have noticed that a lot of the "corporate double-speak" that is currently being used has a lot of "game" terminology. I suspect that o lot of these corporate clowns are excusing their evil behavior by thinking of it in terms of it all being a "game", as in "whoever dies with the most stuff, wins". Well, even games have consequences, and I am starting to sense that the tables are turning. Don't give up!

Dee, I noticed that too. In fact, the Malandro training that I mentioned in another comment that I had to go through, they used that alot. They used to talk about "getting in the game". It used to make me sick and made me want to stand up and scream "I don't want to play this game! Are you people all nuts? This IS a game and it's a disgusting one. Get me OUT OF HERE!"

it's nice to find that there are real people left on this planet. i can't say i've experienced it all, but some of what you've said rings clear. i believe the game is suppose to keep us on edge. some people work best when on edge. they tend to be the high strung adhd type that took ritalin back in school. they climb corperate ladders without a long term goal and no one willing to support them. their motto is, "it's lonely at the top"! i am a supervisor who studies cause and effect. I believe human behavior is our final frontier. when dealing with the cut-throat behavior of a fellow employee, i've learned to stick to my morals and wait them out. they may go up like a rocket with much spark and fanfare, but their future is built on sand. be patient -alan

First of all thank you for understanding and all of your kind comments. Unfortunately for my boss's family he does have several children and a wife at home. I think he does not spend much time with them, but they are like an accomplishment to him. They are like a trophy, to him he was not a success unless he had a family. He is very competitive and is not trustworthy, obviously. The worst part of this is that this behaviour is prevalent not only in corporate america but alive and well in Academia, where tenure protects the insane! It is time to move on for me, change is always scary but it is inevitable. I am afraid he has already screwed me over once or twice, but I turned the other cheek. I am just losing cheeks to get slapped.

I know how it is, I am going through it myself. While we can hope and believe in karma, and trust that these people will eventually "reap what they sow", you do not have to be there to see it. You have a responsibility to yourself, to stay healthy and be happy. The world is sorely in need of decent people who have integrity, and won't trade their morality for the corporate sleaze game. Good luck, God bless.

Trust me you don't want to be there when the Fit hits the Shan and somebody gets his dues. Either way can be very dangerous to job and health.

Good comeback! Your boss sounds like a real egotistical jerk. My old boss from many years ago was very similar. He loved "playing the game". He didn't care who he stepped on while doing it. It eventually caught up to him, he was let go. But I would guess more often than not they get away with it.
