Assistant Store Manager

I have been working for this company for 3 1/2 years. I started out as a cashier and worked my way up to assistant store manager - mostly on the strength of my hard work.

As happens often to assistant managers, I was transferred to a nearby store. Very soon, I saw a pattern emerging - my store manager regularly chewed out (often in public)women employees who were older than he is. Never does he get so hostile with other men or women that are younger. One day he started yelling at me in the middle of the store. Another day, he snapped angrily at one of the cashiers in front of a customer. And this happened frequently.

And then there were his expectations. He gave me lists of tasks that were three miles long and gave me an unreasonable amount of time in which to get it finished. When I did my best, it was never good enough for him. One week, he was out of the store and it happened to be a grand opening sale week (we moved into a new building). We were VERY busy. When he got back, I walked into the store and as soon as I got into the office he started yelling because "NOTHING had been done." He had even written me up. Not until he was done venting did he bother to ask why that might have happened.

Never once has he ever told anyone in that store that they did a good job nor has he ever said, "Thank you."

Even our direct store delivery vendors hated him. I received complaints about him from our bread delivery man, the beer driver and one of the pop drivers.

And when confronted with his behavior, he tried to turn it around and make it my problem. He NEVER accepted personal responsibility for anything.

Sounds a little bit like my LAST boss. This lady had a problem with ME, and me ONLY. She was nice to everyone else, but she always had a problem with whatever it was I did. I always did everything wrong, and she acted like a jerk to me. When I tried to tell her she was acting like this, she refused to listen and told me I was "imagining things". Pheh! Can you believe it???? You probably can! Hahaha!
