Dr. Evil

This is a true story. The names and logistics have been changed to protect the innocent and prevent litigation. I worked as a Technician at a midwestern university for a women, I will call "Dr. Evil" Dr. Evil had very many nasty behaviors and treated her subordinates like she owned them. She was very possesive of my time and would get angry if I went to the restroom during working hours. An unfortunate accident took the life a young graduate student in our department, everyone was heartsick and devastated. I asked my boss for the day off to attend his funeral. She replied that I would have to take a day of vacation and go to the funeral and come right back the same day. The funeral was four hours away, so I told her that yes I agree to those conditions. I will attend the funeral and leave immediatly and return to work the same day. So my fellow co-workers and proffesors left to attend the funeral, I did not ride with anyone because I had to return to work after the funeral. Somehow I manage to drive the funeral,4 hours, attend the funeral (catholic service) 1 hour, and drive back to work, another 4 hours. Upon my return from work, I filled out the proper paperwork for a vacation day and left the paperwork on Dr. Evil's desk for her to sign it and turn in to the department secretary. I even managed to set up a PCR reaction and run the agarose gel and document it, that very same day! Well upon returning to work the next day Dr. Evil storms into my lab and slammed the door shut. She was clutching the paperwork for vacation time I had filled out and left on her desk. She crumpled up the paper work and threw it at my face and screamed, "You made me look like a B@!ch!" I was dumbfounded and gaped at her questionably and replied,"What are you talking about? I filled out the form as you requested. I agreed to the conditions you stated." "Well," she replied. "The department secretary just informed me that the department chair gave everyone the day off for free. You knew about that and just wanted me to look stingy and mean." I tried to reassure her that I was not aware of that and would never do such a stupid trick. She had told me time and time again that I was not like other employees at the University, that I did not have the same rights as others because I worked for her and was paid off of a grant. So I was just following her orders. Well Dr. Evil hated me with passion. I think that women would have tried to kill me if I did not physically tower of her. Needless to say this women tried to fire me, but the head of Human Resources assured her that I would take legal action. So she decided she no longer needed my technical expertise and "let me go". She then proceeded to defame my good name to anyone who would listen. I found another job about a month later, and she even called them to say negative and inflamitory remarks. My new boss ingnored her and I continued to work for them. I had a lot of anger from the things she did to me. I worked for Dr. Evil for 4 years and this was just one example of the many bizarre and evil things she did. I had nightmares about running into her. I eventually left the midwest for the east coast, six years later, I am still dealing with this. I am still scared of running into her at a Scientific conference. I think if I do I would become physically ill. She was oddly very jealous of me, and I dont understand why. I am nothing to look at and of average intelligence, average in everyway. Yet she would constantly make really odd comments to me. For example, My Fiance at the time came to pick me up at work the next day she said something like, "He is much better looking than I thought he would be" What does that mean? Or something bad would happen to me and she would say, "Dont worry nothing ever bad happens to you." Those statements do not look like a rude comment but the tone of the way she said things, you completelty get a different vibe.

I think I would avoid her. I am afraid of her. She was very unstable!

Before attending a conference change your appearance; hairdo, color dress-style and keep your mouth shut. These types are very insecure and self-absorbed psychos. Chances are she will not recognize you.

That is hilarious-I should have tried changing my persona for the Bimbo, just to watch her twitch.

That would have been greatly amusing. Little things like that can throw petty people for a loop. They don't expect it and they can't deal with it.

Wow, thankfully, you got away from her! If you were to run into her at a conference, how would you respond?
