In my job for 8 years now. Was forced to quite last week. Everything was fine until 2 years ago when I took 3 weeks off the have a face lift. It ws a simple just tighten everything up deal. When I came back my boss (a female)didn't talk to me for a few days. When she did talk to me it was cold, distant. Over the last 2 years she has done everything from stop projects mid stream, hold back on raises, giving my bonus to one of my employees, and giving me a performance review that was demeaning. Finally, a few weeks ago she stopped talking to me altogether while she would yuck it up with those around me.

She has done this to others, guess it was my turn. Sad thing is she has no one to answer to. We are a non profit with a board of directors that has only her reporting to them. I loved my job, 58 years old, 2 years to retirement, sad.....

I feel bad for you. I hope you have a good financial outlook. The way you described your ex-boss she seemed like she was a bit jealous. Maybe she does not have the financial means to better herself and feels like an ugly duckling next to a graceful swan. My advice is to move on, gracefully accept it, but quietly plot your revenge!!! But the best revenge is to be successful and take the higher road, don't submit to her level. One door closes, another one will open. Best wishes!

There are several things here. You took time off for a face-lift, which triggered a bullying response from this woman. Most bullies have low self-esteem and self-improvement by others is seen as a deadly threat. The abuse slowly escalated umtil you quit, another hallmark of serial bullying. Finally your observation that it was "your turn" to suffer her abuse means that she did this before and will do it again. Clinically, she should begin on another target in the workplace within 2-14 days of your departure. This person is suffering from a anti-social emotional disorder. Please write down as much information about her tactics as possible and send it to HR/senior partners of your old business. Don't let her be the oral historian of what occurred.
