"Kiss Off" letter received, then a call for an interview?

This happened to my husband, and it really makes me wonder. He sent a resume (via fax and email) to the hiring contact listed on a certain company's website. It was to a specific person, not just "HR" or a "Resume" address. He had tried calling this woman back to express interest, make sure she received it, etc. and was told that she was on vacation, to try back the next week. He did so, and left a message for her. He received, by mail, the proverbial "kiss off" letter, dated the Monday of the week that she got back. (Do not have a opening that matches your qualifications, blah blah....it was for a grocery store manager position, and he has been in a grocery store for 12+ years) Did she even look at the resume? I seriously wonder... The funny part is that the next day, he gets a voicemail from another lady in her department asking to set up a phone interview. He already has a very promising lead with another company, and is (fingers crossed) one interview away from hiring. I laughed and told him he probably didn't want a job with a company that had placed its head so far up its ass.

So typical of larger organizations (or small ones with no clue). Although perhaps the first person forwarded the resume on to another department? You never know.
