A funny Pet Peeve...anyone noticed this?

People who pick up their business phone and say "Hello?" instead of the company name and their own name.

Whenever people do that, unless it's an internal extension I have no way of knowing whether I've called a wrong number and reached someone's home by accident, or if it is actually them. I end up saying, "Uhh, is this X?" or "With whom am I speaking?"

Just introduce yourself already!!!

My take on this is that these people are too insecure to answer the phone with their name. It takes a certain panache, don't you think? It sounds soooo dumb to just say "hello."
