Why is it that many employers can't figure out that a certain percentage of people who come to work don't want to really work at all. It's an established fact that hard-working folks are often the target of those who resent their work ethic and refusal to join in office politics. These people literally work themselves out of a job.
Billions of dollars are lost every year because of this, and yet it goes on. I just left a job where the entrenched clique has the front office tied up in knots-most days nothing gets done. I would be hard a twork and look over to see one of these idiots making faces and in one case, sticking out their tongue at me. At least I got her out of there. I'm sure she's just as obnoxious at her new job.
I'm thinking of starting my own business soon. If I do, I'll make it clear-gossiping and in-fighting are not work, and will not be tolerated. Why can't other business leaders do the same?

I think you got me all wrong. If your company is treating employees like criminals, then I have to assume that management is dysfunctional and that powerful cliques are really in control. Since these folks are largely counterproductive, the bottom line suffers. But since it's easier to blame others for this rather than dealing with the real issues, top management uses clandestine monitoring, snitches, etc. to catch the "theives" that are "stealing" their profits. The real criminals are the ones that use office politics to slack off and undermine others-since these activities are not work, they constitute wage theft.

Dear Confessor - Stop working to try and ruin my day. The only joy I get out of going to work is not doing any real work and getting paid for it. My company treats their employees like criminals. So what would motivate me to be such a good corporate citizen?
