Enough pretty well sums it all up, you know what I mean. There comes the time!
I recently had to leave a job that had several problematic elements to it. Too many hours, minimal pay, a boss who only cared for himself, and a management team that elicits thoughts of, well..., Disneyland, which is the nickname I dubbed upon the entity. In an nutshell: My ex-boss only worked 26 hours a week. Yeah he was on salary, but so was I, and guess what. He expected me to work my 40, cover his absent 14, and then cover shows and special events on top of that. I was being abused at 65-70 hrs+/wk and only paid for 40 at the absolute minimum wage allowed by state labor laws. My ex-boss spent weekends in Vegas while I couldn't even afford to take my wife to dinner on our anniversary. I had to work it anyway, so he could visit relatives. On holidays I worked 15-18 hrs /day to cover civic events involving the site. After 3 years, the employees were granted a 1% raise, which for 90% of the employees was less than 8 cents an hour. Oh, the entity? It holds concerts, plays, company holiday parties, and numerous entertainment activities and civic events. It isn't hard strapped by a long shot, but they sure stick it to the employees. Why call it Disneyland? With most departments run by female A-types personalities in the outer corner, they stab each other and anyone else in the back while talking to them. All are princesses wanting to be the Queen. As for the male department heads, well, envision Tinkerbell and you'll understand. Disneyland was a natural descriptor.
With all the political strife, with being abused by a scrawny, pencil-winered little N, being over-worked and underpaid, the time came to walk. And, so I did. Best move I ever made. All my Black, gay, and female friends agree they would have done the same given the circumstances. In fact, they applaude me for enduring the BS as long as I did. Any one else out there experience the same? What would you have done?
