Don't know whether to laugh or cry

I hope I didn't post this already. If I did..that's because I'm giddy from my payraise today.
Don't hate me because I'm so rich...I got..are you ready..a whopping $12.50 extra a week. That's $50 a month. Before taxes.
Whoo Hoo. I'm not real sure to do with all that money.
I went out for wings and beer tonight, however, and blew the entire raise for this week. Oh, you know how crazy people get when they get some money. I just couldn't help myself.
Freaking cheapskates. Sure wish they'd given me enough to afford a half-tank of gas.
And before anyone asks why so little..I'm one of the lucky ones. Only a couple got raises..and I GOT THE MOST.
Don't ever work where I do, unless you're independently wealthy!

Remind you of something?

But it doesn't say what OhHeckWithIt does for a living. I mean it's all relative, right? I make about 60K a year (middle of the road) and I would be extremely annoyed with a $600 a year raise as described in this piece.

I don't know whether to cry or kill myself cuz I haven't gotten a raise in 4 years. And it is purty dern sad that I would actually dig getting a $50 a month raise. But in all fairness, I'm pretty well paid---at the high end of my pay scale. So I'll quit my b*tchin now.

OhHeckWithIt(04/26/2006)
I'm upper middle management, but I can't tell you where because if my upper management got wind of this, I'd be in trouble. Or lose that raise. And yes, I was told in person.

I empathize. It's been nearly two years since my organization give out simple cost of living adjustments. They finally "stretched" themselves last month with the average COLA being worth less than $0.50 /hr... With our insurance premiums increasing in the near future, most employees will end up in the red.

I think what saddens me most about the COLA is that it was implemented selectively. Employees on probation, temporary employees, and anyone else they could "disqualify" was excluded from receiving this small increase. I can understand longevity increases or pay raises based upon merit / performance, but I have a hard time denying employees something that clearly is meant for all. To me, it's all in the title - COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT. I'm inclined to make a phone call to the DOL so I better understand whether or not such condict is legally permissable.

Wow thats like an insult! I once got a $12.00 christmas bonus check after being a a company for a year! (this was a huge multi-million company) I feel for you.

OhHeckWithIt(04/27/2006)
I was at a job once where, for our Christmas bonus, we got a xeroxed coupon for a local grocery store for $10. And when you went to the store and cashed it, you had to show your work ID and they had to get a manager to come sign it to make it legit!

OhHeckWithIt - Holy crap, where do you work?? That's unbelieveable!

you're over(04/27/2006)
price of gas: $3.09 a gallon, my parking garage: $225 a month, working in a converted closet with shoddy electrical work and falling ceiling tiles: PRICELESS!

OhHeckWithIt(05/02/2006)
Oh, by the way. My payraise doesn't start for another month. Might break the payroll that way.

SouthernProgrammer(05/03/2006)
I had my review last week and had hoped that they would boot me to a higher position based on the fact I have saved this company BIG bucks through my systems. But..I was not booted up but did get a fair raise. Am I upset? Not really, with the amount of work I put in...the amount of freedom I have at my job (at this time) and a great boss I can't complain. I haven't even checked the want ads in months!

I hear you. I remember when my boss at my college job gave me a SEVENTY-FIVE (75)-cent raise, after 2 years of working there. $6.75 an hour after 2 years; up from $6.00. I was none too pleased to find that the little freshmen who just started were getting paid $8.00/hour.

Corporate Ladder Rung: AssociateACube2Graphic(05/03/2006)
I'm still trying to figure out how to react to $1.00/hr more on our anniversary every year covers cost of living AND gas; it certainly doesn't include a normal raise, too. And, since January, I've been doing my work AND most of my demoted sprvsr's work, as well, while he still gets Sprvsr pay! Mind you, the company's doing great, and we've been growing by 35% every year! WTF! Job hunting when I get back from vacation....

OhHeckWithIt(05/03/2006)
You get $1 more an hour on your anniversary? Really? Wow! You have beaten my 31 cents all to hell!

Corporate Ladder Rung: AssociateACube2Graphic(05/03/2006)
Yeah, a whole $, but I don't know if that's EVERY year we're there. I'm still under scale for my type of work and position.

OhHeckWithIt(05/06/2006)
Oh, who really does? Except for the boss-folks?

I hope that raise doesn't put you in a higher tax bracket....

you're over (04/26/2006)
if you got an appetizer it would cut into next week's bonus! did they actually tell you about your raise in person? i received my tiny raise via sterile email even though I had a great review. doesn't even pay for my parking garage. jeez.

Look people, we can't all be Exxon CEO's who get bonuses equaling to 400 Million dollars! Me, I'm spending my raise on a 20oz Mt. Dew and raising a toast to the Exxon CEO while spending this weeks salary fueling up my car.
