If you have an appointment say a dentist, eye, or other appointment....Is your company flexible in allowing you to go? Give examples - I'm curious what the general rule of thumb is on this one...

No, you have to go to your dentist, doctor, etc appointments on your own time, taking a vacation day or a sick day to do so. There is NO making up of time where I work at all. So thank your lucky stars.

My current bosses are fine, but it helps that they're located in Europe, where things are much more flexible. :-) Actually, haven't had a problem with that really ever, except when working shift work (video store, group home, etc.). But that was because you had to find coverage for your shift. My husband had issues with it though at his last job. His boss told him to go to a doctor nearby that she approved of (he lived 1.5 hours away) instead of his regular doc, so he could return to work. He spoke to HR about this and the boss never bothered him again. :evil: :-)

This subject has come up before, search the archives. And no, not one of my employers/managers have been flexible or particularly gracious. They would not let me leave on time to get to the dentist. I scheduled one eye exam late afternoon because it involved drops and the manager insisted that I should come back to work even if I could not see enough to file anything. I had to talk to her boss who sat her straight. I now schedule appointments on an off day whenever possible. At certain times I had the sneaky suspicion they wanted to save on insurance by making it extremely difficult to keep an appointment.
