Lack of planning causes overcrowding and now I sit in my bosses office

ok,
so I start this new job doing pretty much what I like doing. I am a software package expert and a company has hired me because they needed help in this particular area in their IT dept. To make a long story short, I was interviewed four times because they wanted to make sure I was going to be a long term employee instead of just hanging around for a while then quitting. I jumped through the hoops and got hired. So I get here and guess what! everywhere I look people are doubled up in offices, people working in conference rooms, even hoteling up in an obvious place where a printer should be. Then I get to see where I work. I get to work on the edge of my bosses desk. Literally 3 feet from him. Now going back to my interview process, I had an offsite interview. I didn't see the office space and now I know why they were so adamant about me wishing to be a long term employee.
Ok, also to give you a little perspective to why I think this situation is not right is because I am a 10 year veteran of the IT industry with certifications and an advanced degree. Not to mention a hot hot hot specialization in a product that is very much in demand. So honestly a cube or a normal workspace should really not be that big of a deal.
So I went to HR and of course they all have individual offices and I asked them what are the long term plans for the space issues. They told me that when senior management decides that the space is an issue they will act accordingly. Bullcrap!!
So anyway, I found another gig and I am moving on....I have only been here 5 weeks. Their loss I guess.

Before you give the big "yes" for your next job ask for a tour of the facility. I did and you better believe I have my own office, printer, laptop, cell, etc.

Cnubelevit is right 100%. This goes for everyone - after your interview demand to see where you will be working and what the office layout is. Also,is there a break room (maybe with coffee urn and refrig to keep your lunch) where you can go and decompress? If you drive,what is the situation with parking, too?
