I worked in a bank in the "collection" department. Started as a temp and was called bright and dedicated and a "whiz with computers". Was sought after by many departments and did a lot of other people's work. Was asked to do everything from making treats for their functions, to helping with "employee week" to helping everyone in the building with software problem (even though IT guys hated that). I also did the work of my sexist "good ole boy" boss who said disgusting stuff about women's body parts etc. I ignored it to not have 'problems' and besides to me it's just ignorance. I ignored it too when he started to take every Friday and go to a "dfferent branch" when nobody could reach him. I ignored it when I had to do his work continually why he spent hours talking to another co-worker "gossiping" about everyone (I could hear it-it was mortifying stuff). I ignored it when the lazy woman I was working with shoveled HER work onto my desk and claimed I was her secretary (I was NOT). I ignored the neighboring department head coming in telling me stories about my boss' bosses infidelities, her smearing of every person in the bank and her smearing of me to others (her door open I sit right outside it and heard all of it frequently). I ignore the other girl that worked for this last woman I mentioned when she distributed her bosses memos to everyone about people being fired etc because he didn't realize he was keeping files on a shared access drive... and I ignored it when I was told to "keep notes on what others were doing" and when I was told to ignore the running of (illegal) credit reports because my co-worker was using them while moonlighting as a collector after hours. There were a million more things. Doing three people's jobs for 19 grand a year and I found out the high school girl who was an uppity moron with no intelligence was making more than me. They admitted they were underpaying me and were going to raise my pay 7k more. But I couldn't tolerate it anymore when several stacks of work were thrown on my desk and the woman I worked with went home and then my boss told me to doctor her time sheet so she could get away with it...and I said, why don't you do it? He said "I don't want to get into trouble". I then broke down, told him I wasn't doing his damned work, or hers and I was sick of the other woman talking about everyone so maliciously and his crude mouth and that when I walk out of there, I am going for a break. At which time I left to go to human resources. I gave them my notice which was one month. At that time frame I was due a 1200 bonus and would have reached vesting. However, my error, was giving them any notice. I was brought in for a meeting which I was told to "clear my desk" and leave. I was "not fired". They were "just taking me up on my offer to leave and opted to let me go early". So lesson to everyone here is you are NOT required to give notice. If you have vesting, stock options, a holiday bonus or other things due, you won't get them! So stick it out a little longer. But like I posted to someone else. I win in the end. Two of the people that caused me great stress were fired (they admitted too to an old co-worker they were wrong and how great I was) and also, they have been unable to keep people in my old position. Though they raised the job to 26 thousand (now I heard it's 30), nobody can take it. It was a stressful job to begin with...all those repossessions, bankruptcies etc and all the crying and screaming/threatening people! So I am glad I am gone. But I hope someone here is helped by my plight!

Good for you. It stinks that you were n't really appreciated until you left but unfortunately that is usually the case. It is good that you stuck up for yourself and kept your dignity, a lesser person would have just meekly kept putting up with getting dumped on.

sounds typical to me. an offensively graphic sexist co-worker is sadly all too common. you're so much better off! you don't need the stress!
