Clyde, cheapest mofo'in boss on earth!

I'm a technician, been doing it since '86. won't say what type of tech. for anonymity's sake.
Went to work for a guy, the job was handed to me by a friend in the biz who knew me and was leaving to be independent. On the interview he low-balled me on the salary, but since I needed the job, I accepted his offer. After telling my buddy, he told me I was getting ripped off and to go demand more, so I did, and sure enough got a fairly decent wage-not great, but enough to just pay my bills, etc. Thank god my friend told me to, because for FIVE YEARS, that would be the one and only raise I would get. He also went cheap on mileage reimbursement as well. He would buy pop from a discount store and sell it for 25c a can, etc.
Anyway, after 5 yrs. of no raise, and me nicely asking/begging/pleading , I finally delivered him an ultimatum. I need a raise, Clyde, or I'm going to have to leave and find a better employer, okay, CLYDE????
He said, and I quote, " you'll never do any better than this" , and I said, well, we'll just see about that.
SIDENOTE: My mommy taught me when I was very small, that I could do anything I set my little mind and heart to, and that I shouldn't let other people tell me what could and couldn't be done , especially by me. So I set off to prove old Clyde wrong. To his credit, he was a fairly sweet old guy, decent work conditions, but no raise and cheap as hell.

So, I contacted a guy I had worked for before who I liked. Told him my situation, asked if he could help. He created a job just for me in his co. with a starting pay $3.50/HR. HIGHER than my current pay. Wait: it gets better. Now my revenge happens!!! I take my last 2-week vacation at tight-ass' place, and while I'm on vacation, I go to school to be trained on new gear by my new boss- let's just call him: SWEET AL. SA pays me for a week while I'm in school, I get a free trip to texas and hotel, meals, rental car, etc. In Dallas, no less. So that week I get MORE THAN DOUBLE my old pay.....hehehehehehhhheeeeeeeehheeheeee .....sorry.
THEN: Chrismas holiday coming up, I turn in my 2weeks notice, and bam! I'm outta there and starting a new year with my new job!!! I'll never forget the date, 1/4/2000. It was like moving out of a shack in hell and being welcomed into a mansion in heaven. So to everyone: don't give up, if you know you're good at your job, someone out there wants you. But sometimes you need to simply ask. But YOU have to make a move, don't just sit there and suffer!! I will never look at job loyalty the same way again. You gotta treat me DAMN good for me to not be willing to dump YOUR ass, boss!
PS I named myself 'curseguy' because in fact, every single job I have left because of ill treatment has gone BANKRUPT within 2 yrs. of my departure. Now that's some sweet revenge too, and I did nothing to cause it except LEAVE!

Southernprogrammer, that's one of the best revenges I've ever heard of! Vanillaginger has a great point too! It doesn't end there! If they say that to you, thumb your nose at them and find something better! They don't know you!

>THEN: Chrismas holiday coming up, I turn in my 2weeks notice, I like that! Many years ago I worked for a school district where the HR guy was an absolute jerk. The work conditions were good but they told us they did not have money for raises and then, while outside of the finance office, I heard them talking about a 25,000 grant they got from the Education board to help pay the salaries of people who supported system "X" which is what I did! They were going to use the salary to supplement someone elses salary. Armed with this info I asked for a raise and was given a "eat $&^$ and die look" and told "No raise and try and do better!" Well, I had an ace in the hole, I HAD a better job offer and I left the HR mans office and accepted the job. I came back and told him and since this was the first week in December I offered to keep working to help them. He did what I knew what he would, he told me to leave so I told him I was giving my two weeks notice and since I had not taken my vacation I would take one week now, then since they were closed for two weeks in the holidays and I would take the first week in January off. His jaw dropped as he realized I was getting a month off with pay! This happened and was the best revenge I ever got!

First HUGE clue here "you can't do any better than this place". Really? Are you the only employer in the world? Am I the dumbest employee you've ever hired?? Feh.
