Why is everybody so crabby around here?

Is it just me or does it seem like people come back to work pissed off after the holidays? It seems like there has been nothing but grunts and groans from the people who sit around me at work since new years. I heard one lady on my floor actually tell another coworker to "shut her pie hole" today! And yesterday the head of our dept. told his peer to "just can it" because he had put up with "enough sh*t" from his kids over the holidays and that the other guy sounded like his youngest son. I just cannot believe adults talk to each other this way at work.

What gives? Are they still hungover? Did they get coal in their stocking? Did the relatives exhaust them..? Did the sweater not come in their size? Did they gain a few pounds? Or What? Maybe I am the minority, but can somebody explain to me why people are so dang crabby after the holidays?

OK seriously, why? I'll tell you why. It's because I spent most of my holiday listening to my wife and mother in law rag on me about why I collect baseball cards and about when I am going to get a new job and about why I shouldn't eat dairy. AND THEN I get back to work anticipating relief from all that and I get here and my boss wants to know when I am going to be done with line item 2.8 on task 4 and about how how we need to get in my meaningless "productivity goals" for this year because we didn't do them before christmas because he was in St. Barts drinking Mai Tais or whatever it is they drink down there! That's why!

Because I have to be back at work and I hate my job.

Spence, you about summed it up only insert star wars for baseball cards for me and I'd be hearing the same argument! Couple that with the workaholic co-worker who insists on starting every conversation from literally the minute they get here with "did you get this done" or "you need to do this that way" or "you are wrong..." Certain people will never learn the meaning of the word tact.

watch the movie "Falling Down", it might give you a clue as to why.

going back to work after a few vacation days is always so depressing. I like my family with all their foibles but because there is so little vacation time everything comes at me at once. I need at least two weeks to sort it out and I can't get that much time off in one block. So here I stand or sit with everybody's frustration swirling around me. Pre and Post Christmas time is the pits, lowest time of the year. People, bosses and co-workers expect too much and the backlog is huge.

Yup..Yup...Yup. Coming back to work after the holidays is always great. Kinda like leaving Chucky Cheese's and walking into an INSANE ASYLUM!

My confession:it isn't the holidays, it's January. Cold, dark, and too long. I don't think I have seasonal affective mood disorder. I am just grumpy from wearing all the layers and having my face chap no matter what I do. Ick.
