Home > How I Quit My Job

Never Felt so Good to be so Disrespectful

As a student in college, I used to work at a restaurant as a waitress and caterer. I would work 18 shifts on Saturday and 10 hour shifts on Sunday (on my feet at all times). I did this for two years.
The owner was a man from Jordon who had the temperment of a 3 year old and the business skills of a nat. He constantly belittled the employees and told his young son not to look us in the eyes when he visited because "that shows you are equal to those women, and you are a boy so you are better". He would steal our tip money at the bar during wedding receptions and would even pocket $500 bonuses that people told us they left for the waitstaff for "doing such a good job".
I put up with it for 2 years, sometimes solely in charge of catering events of 400 people, all without a raise. I decided my senior year that my courseload would be too tough to continue working 28 hours on my feet over 2 days. I asked to cut back to one shift on Saturday instead of two. The owner became furious, yelling at me that I was a lazy female dog who was deserting his company in a time of need. He called me a child and demanded that I continue my hours.
I'd had enough. I threw a towel in his face and told him I quit. I then picked up the stack of cash on his desk and threw it everywhere. I left, with him on my heels saying he would call the cops if I didn't leave. I turned around and asked "Are you blind? Do you not see me leaving? YOU'RE following ME". As I stood at the door I said "I'm calling the IRS when I get home...good luck with that". (I knew about his massive tax fraud).
I didn't actually call the IRS, but I found out that 2 months later he blew up at the Health Inspector and called him quite a few names. The Health Inspector did some digging, uncovered his fraud and also his $4 million owed to creditors, and I am happy to say my former boss is now being hunted down in Jordon, to spend a good part of the rest of his life in jail.
