Those of us in the midwest knows there is a 'severe winter weather storm' hitting our area tomorrow. The guys in the cubes next to me asked if we could work from home if the roads got too bad because some of us have hour commutes on the good days. The company response: "the weather forecast is only predicting 3-6" of snow, and it isn't scheduled to start until 8:00am. If you think this will be a problem, then we expect you'll leave an hour or two earlier to get to the office by 8am to beat the storm. During the time that you are working in the office, the plows will clear the roads which means there will be no reason to leave the office any ealier than 5:00pm. The storm is scheduled to be done by 6:00pm, so leaving later may also be an option for those of you with a concern of driving on snow covered roads!
Nice equation, but someone forgot to put children, daycare(opening&closing times), and safety into the mix!?

Sorry to hear that! My boss is staying home tomorrow, he already told me. (due to the anticipated weather) And he doesn't mind if any of us do either. Why would a company care if employees took the safe route, especially if they are fully capable of doing their jobs from a home network? If I were you I would come down with a "cough cough" cold.. ;-)

What a fricked up company you work for. Sorry to hear it. Do they expect you to leave your kids at the day car until all hours? And yeah what about safety?

Ugh! Corprorate america....Of course they think staying later is a good idea! Ugh! A smart company would say "take your time and be safe tomorrow, we care about our employees". It sounds to me though like it's written by one obnoxious HR person who happens to live across the street from work.

Would it help if I told you that the call in number I was given to see if the office was even open was disconnected? Completely true...

Companies probably that "working from home" isn't really working and that you're goofing off. I don't live in a snow state, but we get rain pretty bad here and we are told to "allow more time" to arrive to work. God forbid the company should give some time off for inclement weather. How much more time do they want us to committ to them? They already have us for 40 hours a week, not to mention commuting time of 1 hour round trip to work and then time spent getting ready for work. And we're all indisposable just obsolute machinery. Who was the jerk that signed us up for 5 days of work and only 2 days of rest? Probably a corporate crack pot!
