I have an imaginary child...

I couldn't help but to chime in when I read the last story. I am new to Jobschmob, but had to share this one....
I once had a coworker who was hired by our company and worked for us for about 1.5 years. During this time she often called in because her child was sick. She left early because her child needed to be picked up, and came in late "because of her child".

About 3 months after she quit we found out from a friends/friend who knows her family that she didn't even have a kid! She totally took advantage of the system! Apparently she job hops alot. She even had a name picked out for her child. We always were curious why she never had any pictures on her desk, now I guess we know why...

Welcome "T"! We'll send you a copy of the Employee Handbook and dress code policy... LOL! What your coworker did was pretty bold and risky, but I have to say I kind of admire her guts! It was actually a pretty ingenious way to come and go... I'd never personally do it but more power to her.

I don't know...I think it's a fireable offense. Kind of like saying you have a medical condition and need to go to the doctor all the time or something. If I had an employee like that and I found out she lied about having kids I'd fire her.

I have to admit, that's a gutsy move. Plenty of people I think use the "pick up my kid" as an excuse. Granted, it may be valid, but if we're supposed to be cognisant (sp) of their schedule, then I think we need to have a "leave early to beat rush hour" excuse. Congnisant for those of us who have to drive hours on end.

Me, I'm too honest with people and companies in all the things that I do. Honesty is not always the best policy in offices, as I'm sure we all know. It might be the verbal policy of the office, but what people say and do are often two different things. It seems like the dishonest ones are the ones that get ahead.

The Rev. Cnubelevit says, "STICK IT TO THE MAN BEFORE HE STICKS IT TO YOU!" Personally, I think if she did it and got away with it, KUDOS to her.

P.S. HR did eventually find out, but there was no legal penalty because she never actually reported a child to HR on any paperwork.
